We are off on our "big" summer cruise. Looking forward to 2 plus weeks of good living and adventure, and hoping it ends normally without a maintenance issue. We have had a great start to the cruise already.
It started yesterday. We wanted to go to Drug Mart to get an anniversary card for Anne and Nate. And Drug Mart being right next door to El Meson it seemed natural to stop for lunch and a half pitcher of frozen margaritas. Then on the way to Annie we stopped at the Happy Tails "doggy store" and Meijer's grocery, two places we really like.
When we arrived at VYC we saw that our friends Bill and Karin Shearer had arrived on their Nordic Tug and Peter and Marianna were there too. As it worked out, we had two cocktail hours, one with each couple. Marianna surprised us with beautiful insulated martini glasses as an anniversary present. What a great way to start a cruise!
Today started with coffee, tea and fresh VYC donuts purchased by Gary. He even brought 2 maple frosted donuts to Annie for us. We drank coffee with the Shearers then went shopping with the Orros. I let Peter try some of my boat cleaning soap and he liked it so I took him to the marine store to purchase his own bottle. Since it's next to Dollar Tree, Marianna and Kerry went along too. Of course I had to send Jimbo a picture of me hovering over the donuts. We do that to each other when one of us is missing them.

We did not leave as early today as we originally intended. The plan was to stay at East Harbor tonight, then anchor at Grosse Ile in Michigan tomorrow night. But the lake weather is not good for travel tomorrow - storms, 15-20 knots winds on the nose, 2-4' waves and waterspouts! So we decided to stay here tomorrow and travel Monday which has a perfect forecast. Peter and Marianna will be on Middle Bass Island both nights. I caught them leaving for the traditional departure picture.
The trip over to East Harbor was very pleasant. 22.2 miles in three hours. We had to anchor twice and hope we are secure. There is a lot of sea weed here and it is hard to know. If any storms come by I will be up and watching for sure. We tested radio calls with Brillig on the way and it appears Peter is having radio transmission problems as he has had in the past. That will give us a nice project to see if we can get it corrected.
It appears likely that we will get some rain tonight or tomorrow so we should know if our hatch is sealed or not. If it leaks again, it has only 2 months to live as it will be replaced this winter. Just before happy hour started Rosemary called to say we missed out on a couple of tasty fresh peach treats she had made. I missed a text she sent me so I did not know to pick them up. Bummer.
We had a nice happy hour using our new martini glasses from Marianna. They worked very well! We'll have to work hard this trip to get them broken in.
We grilled a steak for dinner. Afterwards we sat in the sun and breeze on the V-Berth deck. It was just beautiful. What a wonderful setting we are in. I smoked the remainder of a cigar while Kerry did dishes. It was so pleasant. Then we sat back on the top V-berth at the bow and watched the blazing red sunset - perfect with a little cool breeze. If anyone ever wondered why we enjoy being anchored out on the water they would know if they could experience what we are now.
