August 9, 2021, Monday, St. Clair Boat Harbor

Peter came over for his cappuccino today as usual.  While he was here we counted the remaining cappuccino K-cups and determined that we would be one short if he had just one a day. That seemed unacceptable to us both as I had promised him unlimited cappuccinos on this trip. Maybe Amazon can save the day while we are in Port Huron.

The couple on the boat next to us had a nice dog named Gilligan. I became his best friend after he learned I had a box of Milk Bones on board. He almost came aboard for his morning treat. Gilligan's boat was a nice Cape Dory trawler.

Today's original plan was for the girls to take the marina shuttle to the laundry while Peter and I went to the nice Ace Hardware store. That got blown up as the shuttle is transporting Seniors and is not available on Mondays. Then Marianna found out River Street Marina at Port Huron has a laundry. So we all set off for the hardware store and grocery about 10:30.

Kerry was about to melt from the sun and heat so Peter and I offered to ride the 1.6 miles to the grocery and do the shopping. Our offer was immediately accepted. The bacon flavored vodka was still available as it was last year, and I passed on it again. We rode by many beautifully landscaped parks.

Peter came over for a grilled Costco hot dog as a late lunch. They are so good. After that we walked over to meet a captain, Dick Coleman, who has a 45' trawler (Kindred Spirt) that winters at Parker Marine. Dick recognized Annie. He had come over while we were gone and told Kerry we should stop over. He lives in Florida now but spends all summer cruising the Great Lakes. We had a nice chat while standing in the hot sun so our conversation did not last too long.

Back at the boat it seemed like naps were in order even though I always think it a shame when we are traveling and it's so hot that we don't want to do anything. Our nap ended in a fire drill about 4:10 when it appeared we were going to get hit with a major storm. The wind was way up and the radar looked ominous. So we put extra lines out, packed up the bikes, took down the flags, etc., only to have it fizzle out with just a few sprinkles. I always love a good thunderstorm on the boat when we are safely in port.

Marianna hosted cocktails and dinner on Brillig. We ate in the cockpit and were happy the rain that came by carried in cooler temperatures. Dinner consisted of salad and penne marinara with fresh French bread dinner roles. Marianna made the sauce which was very good. She always makes extra for me. Peter had a major headache but stuck it out for dinner and then went below as the rest of us started on the liquors.

Hopefully Peter will be OK in time for cappuccinos in the morning. It will be an official Skipper's Meeting as we need to make plans for our voyage to Port Huron, about 10 miles North. There is a good probability of rain and storms tonight and early tomorrow.
