August 7, 2021, Saturday, Algonac Harbour Club

Peter came over just about 8:00 AM for his morning cappuccino  - a double today. We decided to start exploring Algonac as close to 9:00 as possible. I got Kerry up and at 'em and we departed about 9:15. Our first stop was at West Marine to see if they had another pair of boat shoes in Peter's size and style. They did not. The we hit Family Dollar, the Flea Market and two garage sales, one on several little islands in a residential area. After a nice ride we stopped at the Algonac Flaming Grill. While I had visions of a Guinness, it turned out to be a family restaurant specializing in breakfast all day. Kerry and I split this $9 platter that was so big we even had a big take home box full of bacon and ham. This place is definitely worth a return visit.

Peter and I hit the Chris Craft Museum while the ladies did Kroger's and the Dollar Tree. The museum is pretty interesting and the curators are well informed on their boat history. Check out this buggy made to look like a boat. I would like to drive that through Amish Country! On the trip home Peter found a tobacco store and was able to get the little cigars that he likes.

Jimbo sent me a picture of the finished boards he is making for my transom door. Boy do they look shiny. Wow. He also sent me a picture of chalk art lighthouse Jola is doing in Vermilion. I think it's very pretty so I included it below. He and Jola hope to visit us here in Algonac on our way back.

Once we were back on Annie, Kerry and I designed the invitation for our 50 + 1 Anniversary Party. Kerry needs to decide if we should email or snail mail it out. Then Kerry napped while I did some sunning. I tried to scrub some wispy seaweed off Annie's water line but could not get enough pressure with my long handled soft bristle brush to remove it.

We went to Brillig at 6:00 for cocktails, appetizers and a light dinner featuring cheese, Monet crackers and deviled eggs. It was just the right amount of food after the huge breakfast/lunch we had earlier. Marianna brought out the liquors after dinner and we sipped while we chatted. Peter and I took a dingy ride to look at the boats in the harbor. This marina was really full this weekend - packed actually. There are a couple hundred of boats here so it was a good tour, although we did not see any like the really impressive boats we saw at Jefferson Beach. They did have one sign that I like, even though it has been defaced. We were back on Annie before the mosquitos hit.

Tomorrow we head for a two night stay in the St. Clair MI Boat Basin, a place we really enjoy. Last time there we found a great grocery with a nice liquor selection - remember the bacon vodka? It's about a 14 miles trip up current so it will take about 2 1/2 hours. We'll need to time our arrival for a bridge opening on the half hour.
