August 6, 2021, Friday, Algonac Harbour Club

Peter came over for his cappuccino at 8:30. Our plan was to leave at 9:00 He only had one cappuccino this morning as he was anxious to get underway. I got Kerry up and going when he went back to his boat. We left the dock at 9:00 and stopped at the fuel dock for a diesel fill-up and a pumpout. I sent a picture of the pumpout nozzle to Gary at VYC. It  has a fresh water rinse hose built in, much more convenient and faster than our arrangement at VYC. It's perfect when Annie has a full fuel tank and an empty holding tank. Later I filled the water tanks so all is really good.

We used 39 gallons of fuel since we left home a week ago. It cost $133 for the fill up and $20 (wow) for the pumpout. We used only 2.8 gallons of diesel per hour on this trip so far. We have been going relatively slow. The trip today was 19.6 miles at 6.9 knots and took just less than 3 hours. It took 1 1/2 hours to cross the lake which was 11 miles wide where we crossed. We had 10-15 miles winds and 1 1/2' waves on the quarter which gave Annie a gentle (most of the time) rocking motion. The pink line shows our route to Algonac. Brillig arrived about an hour after us.

We are docked in a different area today than before, where permanent dockers are docked. It's a 45' dock so we have plenty of room. I wonder if I can rent out what we are not using?

I received a text from Big Jim who finally cashed the "cigar" check I sent him for first class, regular priced oysters. I assured him it was a one time occasion so I hope he enjoyed them! He said he did and even had money left over for dessert. Did he take advantage of me?

We walked a long way for a shower at 4:00. We'll probably use bikes the next time. We had had a busy afternoon. I filled the water tanks, got some stubborn spots of Annie's decks and repaired the chair that had cracked so we would have 4 usable ones. I also strung some colorful LED lights on Annie's top deck. Kerry spent the afternoon getting ready for a dinner party and preparing what turned out to be a delicious eggplant dinner. She got the recipe from one of my sailing magazines.

The Orros arrived at 5:30 for cocktails and appetizers in the pilot house. Dinner followed. As mentioned before, it was very good. Peter even ate all his portion even though he is not a fan of eggplant. We followed dinner with liquors and cookies. Stars of that were an Apple Bailey's we gave Peter and Windmill cookies from Dollar Tree. Why did we only buy one package of them?

We ended up sitting on top of Annie with the captains smoking their second cigar of the cruise. It was a nice evening with a big red setting sun. We finished just in time as the mosquitos really showed up at dusk when I was taking a picture of our lights. It is really the first time this summer that I recall being chased inside by the little pests.

Tomorrow we take bikes to town in the morning. We would like to see the Chris Craft Museum which is open from 1-4 on Saturday's. Thunderstorms are forecast for the afternoon, the first time rain has been in the forecast in about 2 weeks. Will our hatch leak?
