Well, the big unhappy new from last night was that our damn hatch leaked again. I was sure I had it fixed. Oh, well. We'll have to deal with it for 1 1/2 more months, then I will have Parker replace it. It's been a pain in the butt for too long. I have one more thing to try, which is to remove the tape on the lens/frame seam, glue it and then re-tape it. Will it work? Nothing has so far.
Peter came over at 8:00 for his cappuccino. We planned today's itinerary of the Raven for breakfast at 10:00 AM, the Port Huron Museum, the Ice Museum, the Huron Light Ship and the Fort Gratiot Light House, plus a dingy ride down the river. Wow. Can we do it all?
We left about 10:15 for the Raven, which is on time for this group. We had a great breakfast again, fully loaded oatmeal and two lemon blueberry scones. So good. Peter had his big Almond Joy Latte again.
The Raven Restaurant is very near the Port Huron Museum so that was our next stop. The museum is in an old library building and has many nice architectural features. They were between exhibits so we got in free, but did leave a donation. They had many interesting displays, including a music instrument building shop and maritime displays.
Once we finished off the museum we decided to visit the Great lakes Cruising Club office. Peter and I are both members. We found it very near the museum. We had a nice visit with Cindy who does the Lifeline Magazine for the Club. Yvonne the manager was off today, but wrote us later to say she was sorry she missed us.
Then it was off to the Ice Museum. We watched a 15 minute video to get us oriented to what we were about to see, and then had a great tour. Who knew ice could be so interesting. We take ice availability for granted now, but that was not the case in earlier days. We really wanted a cold glass of ice water when we were done.
The mates decided to go back to the boats after the ice museum. Peter and I took off for the Huron Light Ship and Fort Gratiot Light House. The light house was past the Blue Water Bridge. We were disappointed that the light ship was not available for a tour. It will open in 2 weeks. It has been closed for 2 years. Apparently in the high water of two years ago it floated off its land dock, breaking all electrical and water lines. It is just now being snugged up to its new foundation.
The Fort Gratiot light house was about one mile north of the Huron Light Ship. We had a nice tour with a guide. The light house was rebuilt when the first one collapsed and later raised from 72 feet high to 92 feet high. We did the 94 steps up and then down. Its a beautiful lighthouse and I photograph it every time I go under the Blue Water Bridge.
Our trolley guide yesterday and our lighthouse guide today both testified that the best fried chicken in Michigan was at the Palms Krystal Bar which we had to pass on our way home. I wanted to stop there and told Peter I would buy him a piece of Fried Chicken if we did. Well, it was a 20 minute wait for chicken. I should have called ahead to order. We decided not to wait. The smell was out of this world. Next time!
I went to the marina office when we returned and found my cappuccino package from Amazon waiting for me. Hurrah! Then I went to Annie. I had planned to take a shower, but decided to work on my leaking hatch when I saw rain was forecast for tonight and tomorrow. I took off the tape I had on that covered the seam between the hatch lens (glass) and frame. There were a couple of suspicious cracks, so I cleaned the joint all around the hatch and filled it with Gorilla Glue. We'll see what happens tonight. I emptied a big container that I can put on our bed to catch any water coming in and replace the hanging bags.
Dinner was on Brillig. Marianna made her famous curry pot dinner, a tasty, spicy Indian dish. It's Peter's favorite menu item. She had naan to go with it and a nice salad. In addition to cookies and liquors after dinner she had M&M Peanut Candies. So Good! It was a good day. We do have three activities on our next visit agenda; Fried chicken at Palms Krystal Bar, touring the Huron Lighthouse Ship, and taking a dingy ride down the Black River
After dinner we packed up the bikes. Kerry read for awhile while I worked on the blog. Peter is coming over for his cappuccino at 8:00 AM tomorrow. We plan to catch the 9:15 bridge and stop for a pumpout at Desmond's. Algonac, our port tomorrow, is 25 miles down river.
Today is Anne and Nates 15th Anniversary. We are so proud of and happy for them.
