August 1, 2021, Sunday, East Harbor

We had a cool and pleasant night. Great sleeping. Fitbit even gave me an 80 (good) sleep score. There was a moderate breeze all night so we had the slap slap on the hull all evening from little 1/2' waves. Fortunately Kerry and I can deal with it and sleep through it. Some people cannot and they would have been unhappy. It got pretty cool last night. About 5:00 AM Kerry got us a second blanket and sleeping became perfect. Kerry got a 90, excellent, sleep score on her Fitbit.

My anchor alarm app went off a couple times in the early morning as the boat swung around. Because I knew we are anchored in so many weeds I was not sure how good we were set and have been actively monitoring our position. First, I used my range finder to monitor how close we are to shore, regularly checking to be sure we are not getting closer. Then I used a tracking device on my phone that shows where your boat has been with a yellow mark on the chart. So if you drift off you see a long yellow path (below). Finally I downloaded an app for my phone that has the anchor alarm if you move out of a range that you set. So far, we are good.

I drank a couple of cups of coffee, updated the blog and enjoyed my first powered white donuts of the trip while Kerry slept in. The forecast for today was a little better than it was yesterday. No rain or storms so far, and a little less wind than predicted, but still tomorrow looks to be a much better travel day. I still don't know if my hatch leaks. Kerry was up a bit after 11:00. She made us a nice ham salad sandwich lunch.

We had a very nice day at anchor. Kerry shopped on the computer for little favors for our anniversary party. I sat in the sun and read. It was very windy most of the day so I sat on Annie's rear deck which was sheltered from the wind but open to the warm sun. Perfect. Mid day rum and Cokes made a nice treat. Alexa keeps us company all day, playing our favorite music. I ran the generator at about 3:30 to warm water for showers off the rear deck - so refreshing. Last time I ran the generator here the water intake line filled with seaweed. I hope it does not happen again as I need to run it one more time to recharge the batteries before bed.

Cocktails were about 4:30 today - late start. We spoke to Larry and Nancy Clark, our in laws, and Peter and Marianna while we sipped. I grilled big hamburgers for dinner. We both agreed we could have had 1/2 of one and it would have been enough. They were very good though as Kerry made them from scratch with all kinds of good ingredients added.

It got really windy while I was cooking and when we were eating. We even had white caps and 1' waves in this little harbor. It must have been rough on the lake. I was now confident that the anchor would hold since we had been here over 24 hours. By bedtime it had clamed down significantly. I did hear that there were waterspouts on the lake today, at Cedar Point and at Rocky River. Glad we missed them!

Our trip to Milliken State Park in downtown Detroit tomorrow is 55 miles, a long day. It will take us about 8 hours as we lose a lot of speed going against the currents in the Detroit River. Peter has 50 miles to go and it will take him 9+ hours. Marianna is hosting dinner tomorrow night. It is great that we are staying in Milliken for 2 nights as tomorrow we well only be there for cocktails, dinner and bed! We can explore on day 2.
