June 29, 2021, Tuesday, Geneva State Park Marina

I woke up at 6:00 and thought about getting up in order to get am early start. But I was unable to convince my body that this was an good idea until about 7:00. The morning was beautiful. I drank coffee, updated the blog and mopped the bugs off the deck. At 8:00 I shoved Annie off for Geneva. Kerry offered to get up and help but the departure was really easy so I encouraged her to stay in bed, which she did until 10:45.

The trip to Geneva was 37.9 miles. It took 4 hours and 25 minutes, averaging 8.6 knots. Flat seas made for a very nice trip. It was hot though so I had a fan blowing on me all the way, unusual for me. I passed the time reading, speaking to friends, sitting outside and listening to the radio. Very pleasant cruising. Kerry made tuna fish sandwiches for lunch.

Because we left from Forest City YC I cruised much closer to shore than when I leave from Vermilion. I saw places I was not aware of, like the Northeast Yacht Club, an anchorage area at White City Beach and the Wildwood State Park Marina and Yacht Club. We passed close to MHYC where I saw the East Beach is completely gone, having been replaced by a rock wall.

We defrosted the refrigerator once we arrived in Geneva. Ice builds up in it causing more power to be used which is an issue when we are running off batteries while anchoring. so, I like it frost free when we start a period of anchoring out. We had hot weather and intermittent rain showers throughout the afternoon so we did inside activities, like vacuuming and window washing with both air conditioners cranking.  Here is Kerry enjoying her central vacuum cleaner. The sky's were very interesting today.

There are 3 boats docked with us that are doing the Great Loop. Two of them are Great Harbor yachts which are huge. They must have 3 times the interior volume of Annie. The loopers were very disappointed that they could not do the Trent Severn Waterway or the North Channel because of the closed boarders. Apparently 10 Looper boats are coming here tomorrow. Tonight they are all in our Erie anchorage. I am glad they will be gone tomorrow night when we arrive.

We took a walk to the marina store which is a good distance away before we started happy hour on Annie's upper deck. We finished off the smoked fish from yesterday before we had to go inside because of an approaching thunder storm. Dinner was a delicious leftover steak from the ASAP Squadron PIB Rendezvous.  Today's Andrew's hat picture featured the hat on Annie's life ring.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast for tonight so I thought we may have to stay closed up with the air conditioners on.  It cooled off enough that it was pleasant with the hatches open. The trip to Erie tomorrow is 50 miles so another early departure is planned. It's a straight shot to Erie. Once I set the auto helm I won't touch the wheel for 45 miles.

Here is a picture of the Geneva marina entrance in the evening taken on our after dinner walk.
