August 17, 2021, Tuesday, VYC

Last night we all agreed to meet for coffee and cappuccinos at 7:30. I was all ready with plates out and a new bag of cream filled cookies open. Well, Marianna apparently thought we were meeting at 8:00, and Kerry was feeling sick, so Peter and I had the final cappuccino bar of the cruise. We had run out of little white powered donuts the day before so we ate the cookies. We decided we would leave after our "skipper's meeting".

We did enjoy our stay at MBIYC. We did not do any exploring of the island so we will probably go back again with a more ambitious agenda. The  yacht club house is fairly new, modern and very clean. The docks are wide and very nice.

We left about 8:20 for the 25.6 mile trip to VYC. We motored leisurely at 7.9 knots so it took us 3 hours and 15 minutes. For the trip, we covered 266.2 miles. We pumped out the head and filled with diesel once back at VYC. I did an extra good rinse of the holding tank because I had to open the floats in the holding tank as the lights showing the level of the liquid were not working correctly. Once I washed the crud off the floats, they worked correctly again.

I loaned our car to Peter and Marianna so they could drive home and pick up their car. Their original plans had fallen through and they had ended up without a car in Vermilion or a way home. It worked out well for us both as we were packing and cleaning and would not have been using the car at that time anyway.

Jimbo brought over the finished pieces of teak he routed and varnished for Annie's transom door. They looked really nice once installed. At first I did not want any teak on the outside of Annie, but I really do like what he has done. The teak started out as as an old hatch board he had. My brother in law, Jack, cut the board lengthwise and planned it to 1/4". Peter was very impressed with the varnish job, as were Kerry and I. After the installation we went to Rudy's for lunch.

Kerry got all the laundry done before we left. We put our storage container under the front hatch to catch any leaks that happen while we are gone. We left about 5:30. We ordered a pizza for dinner, already settling into our non nautical life at home.

It was a very nice vacation. It was fun to be cruising with the Orros again, after a two year absence. I gained 5 pounds on this trip - too many cookies and cordials? We area already looking forward to a North Channel Cruise next year.
