Peter came over for his cappuccino today as usual. I had a couple of white powered donuts waiting for him. We visited for awhile and decided that we could use this time before breakfast at 10:00 to explore. So we climbed on our bikes and took off. First we went to the welcome center where a 5 cent trolley tour departs. We planned to take the 12:00 PM tour. Our next stop was Desmond Marine where we shopped the marine store and chatted with the sales person who shared a lot of local knowledge with us. The Maritime Marine Center was next followed by a short ride down the river walk. Eventually we ended up at the Raven Restaurant where we checked out the menu and breakfast hours. We were back at the boats by 10:00 to get the mates.
Breakfast at the Raven was great. It is such a cool place with an ambiance like an old English library and reading room. They feature little statues that list the seven deadly sins. We loved our breakfasts and may go back again. Marianna bought Peter a souvenir t-shirt in a bright turquoise color that was a bit out of his comfort zone. He really enjoyed an Almond Joy Latte. I wonder if those come in K-cups? It was huge!
We biked to the trolley pick up point where Marianna deposited a quarter that more than covered our 5 cent fare. We had a great one hour tour of Port Huron, the river areas and Fort Gratiot. We were so glad we learned bout it. While at the river we saw the Jiiman being towed to the Sarnia Shipyard for repairs. We have seen that boat many times in Leamington.
We shopped all the downtown stores after the trolley ride. My favorites were the antique store and the hardware store. The antique store is huge, like a big flea market. Marianna had sensory overload and could not stay in there long. The hardware store is independent and the owner is there helping people and calling all the regulars by their first name. It's a great store.
Thunderstorms were forecast for about 5:00 PM so Peter and I put out extra dock lines and fenders. then this special warning came by, which made us get even more prepared.
Fortunately the major part of the storm went north of us for the most part. Peter said he saw a 35 knot wind speed on his anemometer. We had some rain but nothing near what it would take to make our hatch leak. It was raining a little when the Orros came to Annie for Kerry's taco salad dinner, a staple of our cruises.
Dinner was great. Kerry does such a nice job with this dinner. Everyone makes their own salad with chips, lettuce, salsa, onions, meat, avocado dip, cheese, sour cream, etc. The idea is that your bowl never gets empty - you just refill it as it gets low. Marianna brought over tasty homemade refried beans to contribute to the ingredients.
Cookies and liquors again served as desert. We are all hooked on dollar store Windmill cookies and vanilla cream cookies. Once finished with that, Peter and I went topside to smoke little cigars that he bought in Algonac. We all teased him because he cuts so much off the cigar when he uses a cutter to trim the end of the cigar. The mates joined us once they were done cleaning up. A very nice couple from Algonac stopped by to chat. It seems like she knew of a tug named Annie that use to be at Harsen's Island and she wondered if this was the same Annie.
Tomorrow we plan to hit a couple of museums after we start our day at 10;00 with breakfast at the Raven again. Peter will be over at 8:00 for cappuccinos. My Amazon order which was to arrive today did not. Now it is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. It better come.
NEXT DAY UPDATE: Our damn hatch leaked last night at 4:00 in the morning. First item on the 2021-22 winter work list for Annie - NEW HATCH!
Love The Raven pics! Safe boating!
