I had a fair night's sleep last night. I was awake a couple of times I know, thinking about what to do about the hatch. At first I thought I should be sure to tie it on so it would not slide off while running. Then I though it might be better to leave it off and just tape a plastic bag over the opening. I haven't decided for sure, but will discuss it with Kerry who often has good thoughts about such issues. We do have at least 2 days of good weather ahead. I realized that if I do go home tomorrow it will be the second time we have cut our two cruises short this year for boat issues.
Kerry was up for 9:00 coffee and tea with the group. She took her fancy teapot and two china cups to the shelter where we met for breakfast. The rooibos tea was a hit. Afterwards about 6 people came back for a tour of Annie. They were very complimentarily which we ate up, of course.
We decided to go in on a six person golf cart rental with Kevin and Alice and Mark and Linda. This was in lieu of riding our bikes around the island. We had quite a tour. We were in places we have never seen before, including a sculptor garden by artist Charles Herndon. We had lunch at the West Dock Restaurant - a very delicious walleye sandwich. We stopped at the Glacier Grooves Park and sent Anne a picture to tease her. She can't stand the thought of going there anymore as we took her and cousin Stefanie there one too many times when she was young.
We got back to Annie about 3:30. Kerry had a real hankering for a frozen margarita so we had an early mini cocktail party. I tried one more time unsuccessfully to get the hatch to fit back into the frame. Earlier I had spoken to Dick Parker and he agreed to let us bring Annie to his boatyard tomorrow.
I was able to communicate with Bomar. So far we are having trouble identifying my hatch even though I do have a serial number. (I found out much later that I had one digit wrong) They say we should be able to get it on without removing the hinge on the frame, but I don't think they realize that the space my installation has does not appear to permit it.
Cocktails were at 5:30 in the pavilion. Kerry took our smoked salmon as an appetizer. It must have been good because none was left. At 6:10 the group, minus the Albaneses, set off for dinner in town. We passed as we did not want a big dinner. We sat and finished our wine and talked to Dean on the boat next to us about families and issues that can develop. He has some really big ones.
Back on Annie I packed up my bike and then Kerry and I taped up the hatch as good as we could. We did not have any really heavy plastic so I hope the Costco garbage bag holds. I think we did a nice job. We have a couple of layers of Gorilla tape underneath the plastic too. We'll have a heck of a time getting the Gorilla tape residue off the deck.
We plan to shove off tomorrow by 7:00 AM. It's probably about 28 miles to Parker's when you add the Black River distance in. I hope to be there by 11:00. I am not sure if they will fix the hatch tomorrow. We will see what their plans are and then develop ours from that. We are sorry to be leaving the group early, and had looked forward to a night's stay on a mooring ball at PIB.
