We left the air conditioner on last night so I had a pretty good sleep in the cool air. At 6:00 I was wide awake so I went into the club to update the name and picture of one of our board trustees. I had done it before but misspelled his name so I had to open up the frame and change the picture and name tag.
Jimbo came in at 7:00 and we started our coffee session. He was meeting a wifi tech at VYC. Our plan was for coffee at 8:30 but we were there much earlier so stayed and visited. Later Kerry and I showered and did all the things necessary to get us and Annie ready for a cruise. We pulled out about 10:30. Rick Simpson gave us a tour of his beautiful new Back Cove 42' before we left. Wow - what a gorgeous boat! As we were leaving, one of our members was diving for an expensive bottle of bourbon ($110) that jumped overboard. He survived the dive but, sadly, the bourbon was not found.
The trip to Forest City was perfect. The seas were like glass so the trip was very smooth. We covered the 33.7 miles in 4 hours and 7 minutes at an average speed of 8.2 knots. We saw a rain shower over Cleveland as we approached, but all was clear once we entered the harbor.
Bill Shearer helped us dock, then gave us a tour of his tug, Resolute, to show us all the improvements he has made. New carpet and drapes were a major upgrade and he had worked hard on his interior teak and systems.
Karin still works so we had to wait an hour for her to arrive. I worked on the blog and Kerry relaxed in the V-berth enjoying the air conditioning. Later we took time to take a picture of Andrew's hat with a local bird resident. I send the pictures to Andrew to tease him.
We had a very pleasant evening with Bill and Karin. Hugs all around when she arrived. Hugs are now so noticeable after the Covid experience. Happy hour and dinner were in their club house looking at the lake. We brought hard pretzels and blackened smoked salmon to enjoy with cocktails. The salmon was delicious and we even have some left. Karin made a delicious brochette grilled chicken for dinner. We went back to Annie for a cheese cake desert on the upper deck. It was a great visit that ended about 9:30 when the mosquitoes arrived. Bill had hoped Karin would retire June 1st and he would be cruising with us, but she decided on one more year.
We avoided the storms today. Random showers and thunderstorms are forecast for every day this week but the winds are forecast to be favorable all week, SW and light. Tomorrow we go to Geneva State Park, about 40 miles, and then on to Erie, about 50 miles. We will leave early tomorrow to try to arrive before they arrive.
Once positive development today - Jimbo's Tartan Fantail is finally started!
Love the hat and bird pic! Great blog!
