June 26, 2021, Saturday, VYC "Babysitting" Weekend

We got to bring the grandkids to VYC for an overnight on the boat this weekend. It was a work weekend for Anne and also Nate's frat weekend so some serious babysitting was needed for Saturday. Anne brought them up Friday and picked them up Saturday night. We needed to be here because of a VYC Trustee meeting and also a Taste of Vermilion Party we had signed up to attend. We got happy meals for the kids dinner on Saturday.  We all had a great weekend.

Friday was rainy and stormy so Anne arrived later in the day and we got to introduce her and the kids to the dining pleasure of Rudy's, our favorite Vermilion restaurant. On Saturday we had special order donuts for the kids bought by club manager Gary, grilled hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch, a boat ride, some beach time and the nice dinner. It was fun for all. Kerry and I were pretty pooped at the end of Saturday just trying to keep up with and control of Aubrey, Andrew and Grayson.

The kids behaved well, for the most part, and we got lots of compliments from our friends. Turning our table upside down and kicking it back and forth across the top deck like a soccer ball was not an example of good behavior! I used this as an example of why we did not trust them to stay alone on the boat. Andrew could not find his hat when he left which was a major disappointment for him, but Kerry found it the next day on a picnic table. I told Andrew if we found it and I would be wearing it everywhere. He said "No". The first picture of me with his hat is below.

Before the party on Saturday we invited Jane Zaharias and her friend Richard to Annie for a cocktail and an important discussion about revising the Al Sprock Award for Seamanship. The conversation went well much to everyone's relief. Al was Jane's uncle.

On Sunday we were invited to Brillig for Bloody Mary's and to plan our August trip with Peter and Mariana up the rivers to Port Huron and possibly beyond. It was also Jola's Birthday so we were invited to a celebration at her home in the afternoon. Jola has a very nice family and we had fun with them. In between we did laundry, grocery shopping and worked on getting Annie ready for tomorrow's departure to Presque Isle.

We chilled once we got home from Jola's. Kerry read while I sat on the front porch and watched the boats and sun preparing to set.
